National Day of Silence 2010

The National Day of Silence takes place on April 16 this year. For those of you who don't know, the DOS takes place every year to prevent bullying in schools. Every year thousands of students all around the country do not speak for an entire day to help prevent anti-LGBT (Lesbian, Gay,Bisexual,Transgender,Questioning) attitudes which are directed at the actual group and people perceived to be in it. It was created roughly 13 years ago in Virgina to bring attention the the harassment going on in schools.
A silent protest can be a peaceful way to bring urgent attention to an important issue. Silence as a method of organizing is much different than silence that is coerced or forced through oppressive bullying, harassment and intimidation. A silent protest is active, rather than passive, and causes people to pay attention. Silent demonstrations can:

•Bring attention to an issue and encourage reflection on the issue;
•Simulate the how others are silenced;
•Focus the attention on the issue or cause and not the protestor;
•Demonstrate that the demonstrators desire peaceful resolution;
•Spark discussion and dialogue.
Through your active silence on the Day of Silence you will send a message that bullying and harassment

I personally am not talking in suppourt of the community,just think so many people are used to hearing my voice what kind of message can i send silently.I ask those of you not particpating with me to respect the desicion of others on this day.

I began with a picture of a socialist America flag from the internet. Next I found an old campaign picture of Obama in front of the Capital Rotunda and I erased the background and the light spaces of the rotunda so the flag showed through.Next i found demon horns that i distorted so they stretched back.Finally I ended with Obama's hope symbol that was turned into an anti-Christ symbol.

I was given this assignment in my Photoshop (c) class to create a composite image using the elements and principals of design. also attached is my artist statement.My topic is Ulx. The Ultimate LAN Experience is where is spend most of my free time. I go to hang with friends and play magic and Dungeons and Dragons.
The Elements and Principles of Design I used in my collage were:
Contrast- I took the contrast down on everything but the Ulx logo.
Emphasis- my emphasis is the x on the Ulx logo.
Balance- I balanced my image by enlarging everything to counter the size of the Ulx logo.
Line- all the minor logos form 3 straight lines.
Shape- all the minor logos have shape
Form- to emphasize the Ulx logo even more I gave it a 3d form.
To make my final composite image i started with a black background.Then i found the ulx logo and copied and pasted it serveral times. I didnt like the look so i deleted all but one and added a lens flare filter. i then recopied and pasted the new layers stacked on each other to give form.Next i went online and found logos that either sponsor Ulx or something Ulx offer, most of these logos i resided or distorted . Finally i desaturated the minor logos using the sponge tool so that the Ulx logo stood out more.
